• George Zimmerman has been acquitted in the killing of black teenager Trayvon Martin, sparking outrage all across America. Whether you agree with the decision or not, I recommend reading Richard Wright’s Native Son for an extensive and troubling look at race in the courtroom.
• Elon Musk has announced that he is currently developing the Hyperloop, as self-penned 5th mode of transportation. This, of course, has appeared before in science-fiction. Robert Heinlein’s Friday and Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 have featured such evacuated tube transport technology.

• For a look into Egypt’s recent history of tumultuous revolutions and coups, take a look at Naguib Mahfouz’s Cairo Trilogy, which primarily follows the July revolution of 1952.
