Find a minor character in a short story or play and write a monologue in their name. Are they angry they didn’t get a bigger ‘part’? What does their place in the background do to their personality? What do they have that the main character does not?

This prompt is inspired by Robertson Davies’ Fifth Business. Here is an effective guide to the term. Also, look up Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead if you need more help.

Length: 4-page dialogue or 500 words
