2. Russia recently announced that yes, gay athletes will be prosecuted in Sochi during the 2014 Olympics. ‘s book The Art of Fielding presents a wonderful depiction of being a gay athlete in the 21st century.
3. New Iranian president Hassan Rouhani has promised a return to moderation for the country, which has been ruled with strict and oppressive Islamic law for 34 years. Sadegh Hedayat’s The Blind Owl is a great example of pre-revolution literature in the country.
